Home Depot Kids Workshop
by Ryan McLaughlin ~ August 2nd, 2008
On the first Saturday of every month Home Depot puts on a kids Workshop. They provide small projects for the kids, each project comes with everything you need except the tools. The projects can be completeted fairly quickly (15 minutes each) and without a lot of tools (a hammer and glue is the most we have needed, which they provide).
This month they were getting ready for the Olympics so the kids got to make flag holders with flags.
When they are done with the project they get a small pin and a certificate to acknowledge that they finished it. Home Depot even provides each child with an apron with their name on it. Our kids have about three each because we keep forgetting to bring them back.
We have been going to these for some time and the kids have always had a blast. They have made Pirate ships, Planter boxes, Tool boxes, Stools, Fire Trucks, Flower Pots with flowers (for mothers day), and many more that I cannot remember. When we get home the first thing the kids want to do is paint them and make them personal. It is a great experience for them to create something they can call their own, and they are learning good skills at the same time.
