Pioneer Day

Happy Pioneer Day everyone! In case you don’t know what Pioneer Day is, it is a state holiday to celebrate the pioneers who made the trek to settle here in Utah. It is also an excuse for us to have parades and set off fireworks.
We kicked off the day by heading down to main street to watch the annual Spanish Fork Parade. We parked a little ways off and walked a couple of blocks over, where we set up our lawn chairs in the middle of the road to watch the parade.
As the floats were coming around the corner, Raelynn instantly made a new friend.
The children enjoyed watching the floats–
but preferred racing for candy when it was tossed at them.
That is, unless they came back empty handed.
After lots of floats and too much candy and sun, it was time for the parade to come to a close.
We headed home for an afternoon of naps and cooking for the block party. Many neighbors came to our end of the street to enjoy good food, visiting, and fireworks. After much anticipation and several weeks of begging, our children were finally given permission to break out the fireworks. They took turns lighting the fireworks, and had a blast.
All the excitement and activities tuckered poor little Keaten out. He decided that the 8 loads of clean laundry would make a comfy bed. It’s too bad every day can’t be a holiday– it looks like we will be having a laundry folding party tomorrow.
