Dry pack canner
by Ryan McLaughlin ~ July 9th, 2008
We finally got the Dry pack canner. We signed up for it several months ago and our turn came and we took advantage of it.
As you know from my previous post we had recently bought 500 lb. of wheat and some flour, sugar, and oats. It all needed to be put into cans for long term storage.
Jennifer went and bought a lot of boxes and cans in anticipation of all the canning that we would do when the canner became available.
Everyone helped as much as they could. While I was at work Jennifer was busy filling cans with the various contents. As you can see I had my work cut out for me when I got home.
Jaren and Keaten helped stamp the date on the labels.
Raelynn was in charge of putting the labels on the cans.
I got to put the oxygen packs in the cans and work the canner to seal the lids on the cans.
After we were all done we had quite a load of boxes and cans. It took us several hours, but we were able to complete 156 cans. Hopefully this food will last us a long time, and we won’t have to do this again anytime soon.
