Fathers and Sons Campout
by Ryan McLaughlin ~ June 21st, 2008
We just got back from our fathers and sons camp out. We only had to travel about 15 miles from our home to get to the campsite, it is up Spanish Fork canyon.
The first thing we did was setup the tent. The ground was so hard I could not get the tent stakes in all the way. I even managed to bend one slightly before I stopped pounding them in.
Then we ate dinner. The boys did a really good job cooking the hot dogs, and eating them.
After dinner we cooked and ate S’mores.
After dinner the boys wanted to go fishing. We collected quite a few other children. They all loved to practice casting the line. We did not have a hook on the end so I didn’t mind letting them all have a turn.
We had a special guest speaker come and put on a fireside for us. The special guest was Jarem Frye. Many of you will recognize his name because he is married to Sarah Odgen who is my cousin. Jarem spoke to us about faith, his mission, and the prosthetic knee that he invented. We will be seeing him again at the family reunion in Colorado next week.
After that we went to bed.
The next morning the High Priests cooked us a breakfast of pancakes, eggs and sausage.
After the boys finished they want to go exploring. Their favorite spot was a pile of rocks that they liked climbing on. Jaren got a sticker in his sock and had to stop and take it out.
After breakfast the boys went fishing again while I packed up the car and we left. The fishing pole was so popular that even other adults joined in.
This is one of the activities that the boys look forward to the most. They love camping so much that sometimes we even setup the tent in the backyard.
