Dad’s retirement
by Ryan McLaughlin ~ May 2nd, 2008
I know this post is a little late, but I wanted to let everyone know about the retirement party we had for dad. He officially retired on April 15th, the last day of Tax season. Most of his children were able to come to his house for a surprise party.
To celebrate the reunion the kids wanted a little treat so we let them toast some marshmallows and make s’mores. Unfortunately the weather was bad and so they had to do everything inside. We even had a little fire.
We all got together and bought dad a retirement gift. We got him a 52″ LCD TV and then we also installed it for him. We spent a lot of time running speaker wires behind the walls and under the floor so it would look very professional. We did this all while dad was finishing his last day at work. Here is a picture of before and after. He was very surprised and happy when he saw it for the first time.
The Grandkids took balloons to dads work. They got one for each year he had worked at that job. They then took him to the park. This was to keep him busy while we finished up the installation of the TV.
The kids took a dip in dad’s new Hot Tub.
Dad also took us to a friends house where the grandkids got to feed, clean and ride horses. We even convinced Jennifer to ride the horse. After that we got to pick some fresh oranges.
Mark brought some mini ATVs and the kids had a blast learning to ride them and driving around the yard.
We had fun picnic where we made homemade ice cream and Jared made homemade tortillas.
We even inflated the jumping house and let the kids play with that.
